Nigeria Cannot Afford to Be a One-Party State, Says Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has emphasized the need for Nigeria to maintain a multi-party democracy, warning against the dangers of becoming a one-party state.

Speaking on the political landscape and his future ambitions, Makinde declared that he is qualified and mature enough to address any speculations regarding a potential presidential run in 2027.

The governor's remarks highlight his commitment to a balanced political environment in Nigeria while addressing questions about his political future.



Speculations have been rife about Makinde’s ambition in 2027 when his constitutionally guaranteed two terms as governor ends.

In a chat with the PDP press corps in Fashola Farms in Oyo State, yesterday expressed concern that Nigeria’s potential can’t be attained if it slides into a one-party state.

He said, “Nigeria must not slide into a one-party state so that others will have the opportunity to showcase their talents.”
