Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has officially approved the construction of First Bank of Nigeria’s new 43-storey headquarters, to be located within the prestigious Eko Atlantic City in Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu presented the certificate of approval to the bank’s management on Wednesday, commending First Bank’s leadership for its commitment to innovation and for sustaining the bank’s legacy as Nigeria’s oldest financial institution.
The groundbreaking ceremony, which marks the commencement of construction, was performed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, underscoring the national significance of the project.
The ultra-modern headquarters, once completed, will reinforce First Bank’s leadership in Nigeria’s financial services sector while contributing to the skyline transformation and economic vibrancy of Eko Atlantic City, one of Africa’s premier urban development projects.
Thr governor appreciated Gilbert Chagoury and his brother, Ronald Chagoury, owners of Eko Atlantic City, for the transformative role they played in developing the city.
He invited other financial institutions to emulate what First Bank had done while promising that the state government would continue to create the right environment for businesses to thrive.
“We want to see the tower on a month-on-month rising out of the sun of the aquatic city. I will be presenting the certificate of approval for the bank to begin the construction of the 43-story building.
“I invite the Managing Director of First Bank to come forward and receive the certificate so that they know we are doing it properly. Construction will start tomorrow.
“We want the Chagoury brothers to give other financial institutions approval as well. If they have not bought their land.
