The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that it is working to increase Nigeria’s power evacuation capacity to 10,000 megawatts (MW) by 2026, as part of efforts to modernize the national grid and ensure a more reliable power supply for citizens.
Speaking at the ‘Meet-the-Press’ programme at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, Sule Abdulaziz, Managing Director of TCN, reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to improving grid infrastructure to meet growing electricity demand across the country.
Abdulaziz highlighted that Nigeria’s power generation hit a recent peak of 5,801.84 MW on March 4, 2025, adding that the current power evacuation capacity stands at 8,500 MW. He assured that ongoing investments in grid expansion, system upgrades, and new transmission projects will help achieve the 10,000MW target within the next two years.
The move is part of President Bola Tinubu’s broader agenda to strengthen the power sector, attract private sector investments, and support industrial and economic growth by ensuring stable and efficient power transmission nationwide.
