Power Minister Condemns Nigerian Air Force Attack on Ikeja Electric Headquarters, Calls for Peaceful Conflict Resolution

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has strongly condemned the attack carried out by Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel on the headquarters and facilities of the Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) on Thursday, which resulted in injuries to several individuals and the vandalization of critical equipment.

In a statement, Adelabu expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that such actions pose serious implications for Nigeria’s power sector and public infrastructure security.

He stressed that democratic institutions provide structured avenues for conflict resolution, urging that grievances should be addressed through legal and regulatory channels rather than self-help or violence.

The minister’s reaction follows reports that NAF personnel stormed the IKEDC headquarters, allegedly in protest over electricity-related disputes, leading to a violent confrontation.

The attack has sparked widespread outrage, with industry stakeholders calling for swift intervention to prevent further disruptions to electricity distribution and ensure the protection of essential power infrastructure.

 


“The attack on the facilities of Ikeja Electric, one of our nation’s critical power distribution companies, by the Nigerian Airforce is unfortunate and  a matter of grave concern to our nation while standing totally condemned”.

“This unfortunate incident has also raised serious questions about the need for restraint, dialogue, and the use of appropriate democratic channels in resolving conflicts”.The Minister noted that the power sector is the lifeblood of the nation’s economy and a cornerstone of national development.

“Any attack on its infrastructure is an attack on the progress and well-being of our people. The facilities of Ikeja Electric, which serve millions of Nigerians, were designed to ensure the efficient distribution of electricity to homes, hospitals, schools, and industries, including military installations.
