In a major step toward deepening intra-African trade, Nigeria has officially gazetted and transmitted its ECOWAS tariff schedule to the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) secretariat. The announcement was made by Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, via her official X (Twitter) page on Monday.

The move, made at the AfCFTA Council of Ministers meeting in Kinshasa, signifies Nigeria’s formal commitment to grant preferential tariff treatment to eligible goods under the AfCFTA agreement, including zero duties on 90% of goods traded within Africa.

Gazetting the tariff offer means that Nigeria has now domesticated its AfCFTA obligations, providing legal transparency and certainty for traders, businesses, and stakeholders across the continent.

“This marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s implementation of the AfCFTA,” Oduwole said, emphasizing the country’s readiness to fully participate in the continental trade framework and drive regional economic integration.
