The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a series of high-profile drug shipments in Lagos and Bayelsa, including cocaine concealed inside religious books, according to a statement issued on Sunday by spokesperson Femi Babafemi.
On April 15, NDLEA officers discovered 500 grams of cocaine hidden in 20 sets of religious books at a courier company in Lagos during an export cargo search. In a separate operation, they also seized 2.8 kilograms of Loud—a potent strain of cannabis—smuggled from the United States in a carton.
The agency arrested multiple suspects, including Muhammad Mohammed, a 22-year-old alleged supplier of narcotics to bandits, caught with 277 ampoules of pentazocine injection taped to his thighs and private parts. Another suspect, Mohammed Abdulrahman Abdulaziz (43), was caught with 68 blocks of skunk cannabis, weighing 30kg.
In Bayelsa State, a raid uncovered 557.2kg of skunk, 5.6kg of methamphetamine, and 29.8g of heroin from a residential hideout. The agency emphasized its commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking and its ties to insecurity.
