Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for a significant five-day trip to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years and to Guyana in over 50 years.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, described the tour as 'action-packed.' The visit includes Modi's participation in the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brazil and high-level meetings with global leaders.
The trip aims to enhance diplomatic and economic relations with these nations, focusing on key areas like trade, investment, and cultural exchange, underlining India's commitment to fostering stronger international partnerships.
In his departure statement, PM Modi emphasized the importance of the trip, outlining its objectives to strengthen strategic partnerships and deepen India’s global engagement.
PM Modi’s first stop will be Nigeria, where he will visit at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This marks the first Indian Prime Ministerial visit to the West African nation in nearly two decades.
“This visit will provide an opportunity to enhance our Strategic Partnership, founded on shared values of democracy and pluralism. I am looking forward to engaging with the Indian community and friends in Nigeria, who have sent warm messages in Hindi,” PM Modi said.
The second leg of the tour will take PM Modi to Brazil for the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit, scheduled from November 18-19. As a Troika member, India will play a crucial role in discussions, building on its successful presidency of the G20 earlier this year.
