The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted Nigeria's Super Eagles three points and fined the Libya Football Federation $50,000 in connection with the abandoned Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and Libya.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by Ousmane Kane, Chairperson of the CAF Disciplinary Board, outlining the decision to penalize Libya for their role in the botched match.
The ruling aims to address the issues surrounding the game's disruption and ensure compliance with CAF regulations.
It reads: “The Libya Football Federation is found to have breached Article 31 of the African of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary
Code.
“The match No.87 Libya v. Nigeria of the CAF African Cup of Nations Qualifiers 2025 (scheduled to be played on 15 October 2024 in Benghazi) is declared lost by forfeit by Libya (by a score of 3-0).”
