The United States deployed a medically equipped aircraft to evacuate Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance Holdings Limited executive, from Nigeria. This came after the Nigerian government dropped money laundering charges against him on Wednesday.

The evacuation followed "less confrontational" discussions between Nigerian and U.S. officials, as disclosed by U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, according to The New York Times.

The diplomatic negotiations helped secure Gambaryan’s release and facilitated his safe return to the U.S.

“A plane equipped with medical equipment departed Nigeria’s capital, Abuja to bring him back to the US for needed medical attention”, he stated.

DAILY POST reports that the embattled Binance executive was arrested during a business trip to Nigeria in February, and held at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja since April.

On Wednesday, October 23 2024, Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency dropped the money laundering charges against Gambaryan.
