Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu, has been named ambassador for the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education.
The announcement was made by Muhammad Idris, the executive secretary of the commission, during a visit to Tinubu-Ojo's residence in Lagos on Friday.
Her appointment is expected to bring heightened awareness and advocacy to the educational needs of disadvantaged children in Nigeria, aiming to improve access to quality education for all.
Idris expressed concern over the plight of Almajiris, who he said have been “brainwashed” into begging, terrorism, banditry, and other social vices.
He stressed the importance of collaboration, urging non-governmental organizations, philanthropists, and compassionate Nigerians to support the government in guiding them toward a better future.
He cited Tinubu-Ojo’s “passion for supporting disadvantaged communities, particularly Almajiri and out-of-school children,” as the basis for her appointment as ambassador.
He also praised her efforts in “promoting trade and commerce” and advocating for resources and opportunities for market women.
In her response, Tinubu-Ojo, who is the Iyaloja-general of Lagos, thanked the commission for honoring her with the appointment.
