The Nigerian Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu's proposal to refund N24 billion to Kebbi and Nasarawa states for airport construction projects completed on behalf of the federal government.

The approval came after Senator Manu Haruna of Taraba Central presented a report from the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debts.

This reimbursement aims to recognize the efforts of both states in enhancing national infrastructure, with the funds designated to cover project expenses.

Tinubu had asked the upper legislative chamber to approve N15 billion for Kebbi and N9 billion for Nasarawa in May 2024.

At the time, the president said aviation, including airports, safety of aircraft and carriage of passengers and goods by air are managed by the federal government in line with the second schedule of the constitution.

There was no objection to the president’s request.

Aminu Abbas, senator representing Adamawa central, said the request should be approved because how important the infrastructure is to development and insecurity.
