Transport ministers of ECOWAS member states have endorsed a regional initiative aimed at reducing air travel costs across West Africa.

The new policy, set to take effect on January 1, 2026, will lower aviation fees by 25% and eliminate air transportation taxes, making travel more affordable in the region.

Additionally, the ministers agreed on a regional law to establish common aviation standards and security measures, which is expected to enhance connectivity and safety among ECOWAS countries. The initiative is part of efforts to boost economic integration and ease movement within West Africa.
