Nigeria Strengthens Vigilance as New XEC COVID-19 Variant Spreads to 29 Countries

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has heightened its preparedness in response to the global spread of the XEC COVID-19 variant, now detected in 29 countries.

While no cases have been reported in Nigeria, the ministry has issued hospital alerts, enhanced surveillance measures, and renewed public health recommendations to safeguard citizens.

Authorities are urging the public to stay informed and adhere to safety protocols.



The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has implemented measures to enhance preparedness at Nigeria’s entry points. In a statement, the Director of Information and Public Relations at NAFDAC, Mojisola Adeyeye, urged caution:
