The Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, has granted bail to former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello for ₦500 million.

Bello, who faces 19 counts of alleged criminal breach of trust and money laundering totaling ₦80.2 billion, was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Emeka Nwite ordered that Bello remain in custody at the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Kuje until his bail conditions are fulfilled.

During Friday's hearing, Bello’s counsel, J.B. Daudu SAN, apologized for his earlier absence, attributing it to procedural challenges rather than contempt.

Daudu assured the court of Bello’s commitment to attend all trial dates.

The court also imposed stringent bail conditions, including surrendering Bello’s international passport, providing two sureties with properties within the court’s jurisdiction, and submitting an affidavit of means.
