The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s trajectory toward becoming a global defense superpower following the signing of the DICON Bill. Speaking of progress, the CDS noted that while progress has fluctuated in the past, the newly signed bill ensures sustainability in defense production.

With growing interest and partnerships in the sector, the CDS assured that Nigeria will emerge as a significant producer of its military equipment in a few years, marking a major milestone in its defense capabilities.

He noted that the military used to produce some of its weapons at the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) but that slowed down over the years.

Despite the drawback, General Musa expressed optimism at the resumption of production of military equipment saying the Nigerian military is now making the small caliber of weapons directly.

He said, “We used to assemble guns from DICON but it stopped, that is being restored now. We produce our ammunition now. Directly we do that for small caliber 7.62mm, we do that and 9mm, we also do that.
