The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intensified its efforts against petroleum smuggling, seizing 199,495 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) illegally diverted to neighboring countries along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

The operation, codenamed 'Operation Whirlwind,' delivered a major blow to economic saboteurs targeting the nation's fuel supply chain.

The Zone D Customs Area Command, covering Adamawa and Taraba states, played a pivotal role in the bust through enhanced intelligence-led operations designed to disrupt sophisticated smuggling techniques in the region.

Bashir Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of Customs at a Press Briefing in Adamawa State, Nigerian State that borders Cameroon, said that the persistent threat posed by fuel smuggling not only deprived Nigerians of essential petroleum products but also weakened national security and economic stability.

Saying that despite the Government’s economic reforms under President Bola Tinubu to ensure an adequate domestic fuel supply, unscrupulous elements still exploited the illicit trade for profit.
