The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has praised President Bola Tinubu for signing the Nigerian Maritime University Bill into law.
In a statement personally signed by Osigwe, he highlighted that the establishment of the university will create job opportunities for the people of the Niger Delta and could potentially ease long-standing agitations in the region.
He described Tinubu’s assent as a historic milestone, marking the realization of an idea proposed years ago as part of efforts to address regional unrest.
“The Nigeria Maritime University will not only create jobs for the people and residents of Niger Delta but will also create opportunities for Nigerians to have specialized skills in the maritime area. The President’s assent is a welcome development towards strengthening the relative peace in the Niger Delta.
“I urge the people of Niger Delta to protect the institution and ensure that it becomes a conducive learning environment for would-be maritime experts.”
