The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has directed MultiChoice Nigeria to halt its planned subscription price increase for DStv and GOtv until an ongoing investigation into the hike is concluded.

MultiChoice announced a new price adjustment on February 24, set to take effect from March 1, 2025. Under the new pricing:

  • DStv Premium would rise from ₦37,000 to ₦44,500.
  • Compact+ would increase from ₦25,000 to ₦30,000.
  • Compact would go from ₦17,000 to ₦19,000.

This marks the second price increase in less than a year, prompting FCCPC intervention to protect consumer interests and ensure fair pricing practices. The commission's order means that MultiChoice must maintain its current pricing structure until the investigation is finalized.

The price hike had elicited public censure following the announcement, forcing the FCCPC to intervene.

On February 25, the FCCPC directed the chief executive officer of MultiChoice Nigeria to appear at its headquarters on Thursday for an investigative hearing to address the company’s planned increase in DStv and GOtv subscription fees.

Providing updates in a statement on Thursday, Ondaje Ijagwu, director of corporate affairs at the FCCPC, said the commission’s directive follows the company’s request for an extension regarding its scheduled appearance before the commission.
