Eseme Eyiboh, media adviser to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has stated that the Senate has no grounds to investigate the sexual harassment allegations leveled against Akpabio by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Speaking in an interview on TVC News on Sunday, Eyiboh emphasized that Akpoti-Uduaghan has not formally petitioned the National Assembly regarding the allegations. He also pointed out that her ongoing legal case against Akpabio does not mention sexual harassment.

The controversy erupted after Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central, accused Akpabio on Friday of making unwanted advances toward her in his office and residence in Akwa Ibom.

The allegations have triggered widespread reactions, including a defamation lawsuit filed against Akpoti-Uduaghan by Ekaette Akpabio, wife of the Senate President. As the situation unfolds, calls for further investigation and legal scrutiny continue to mount.

Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President, also weighed in on the controversy, advising the leadership of the 10th Senate to follow the example set during his tenure when he was accused of importing an official vehicle without paying customs duties.

When asked whether Saraki’s advice would be considered, Eyiboh dismissed the suggestion, stating that it was irrelevant to the current situation.

According to him, the circumstances surrounding Saraki’s case during the 8th Senate were entirely different from the allegations against Akpabio.
