The Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojeed Fatai, has formally resigned from his position, effective Monday, March 3, 2025.

Fatai announced his resignation during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Mojisola Meranda, where he officially stated: “I hereby tender my resignation as the Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, effective today, March 3, 2025.”

Notably absent from the plenary was Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted former Speaker, whose controversial removal in January 2025 triggered ongoing political tension in the Assembly.

The development follows a closed-door meeting between Meranda, Obasa, and other lawmakers, the details of which remain undisclosed. After the meeting, Meranda and the lawmakers returned to the chambers to resume plenary, culminating in Fatai’s resignation announcement.

The Lagos Assembly leadership crisis began in January when Obasa was impeached over the alleged misappropriation of funds and Mojisola Meranda was sworn in as Speaker. Fatai’s resignation marks another chapter in the ongoing power struggle within the state’s legislature
