The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved ₦10.3 billion for the procurement of essential healthcare products, including third-line antiretroviral drugs to enhance HIV treatment access across Nigeria.
The approval was announced by the Minister of Health and Coordinating Minister for Social Welfare, Ali Pate, while briefing State House correspondents after the FEC meeting, which was presided over by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday.
Pate explained that the Ministry of Health submitted two key memos aimed at improving the accessibility and affordability of critical health commodities as part of the President’s agenda to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system.
The ₦10.3 billion contract will cover various health products, with a focus on third-line antiretroviral drugs, which are essential for patients who have developed resistance to first- and second-line HIV treatments.
This latest approval builds on previous FEC approvals for the procurement of first- and second-line antiretroviral drugs, demonstrating the government’s commitment to expanding treatment options for people living with HIV and improving overall health outcomes for Nigerians.
