Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has strongly defended his administration’s N5.7 billion goat rearing scheme, dismissing critics as enemies of rural dwellers unconcerned about the suffering of the masses.

Speaking at an empowerment program for 7,220 widows at the Government House on Tuesday, Radda insisted that the initiative was designed to uplift rural communities by distributing 40,000 goats to rural women and large-scale farmers across the state’s 34 local government areas.

The program has sparked mixed reactions, with some critics alleging it is a cover for the misappropriation of state funds, while others hail it as a significant step toward rural development and economic self-sufficiency.

Despite the controversy, Governor Radda remains steadfast, urging residents to support initiatives to boost local livelihoods and reduce poverty.

However, Governor Radda, while addressing the 7,220 widows at the Banquet Hall in Hausa, said those criticizing the initiative were implementers of anti-masses policies and his administration would not be deterred by their opprobrium.

He said: “Recently, we visited each ward and selected 10 women and empowered them with four goats each for rearing, but some people are saying why did we buy goats for them. They said the world had advanced and past the stage of goats rearing.
