Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration over its decision to allocate N15.6 trillion for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, calling it wasteful and a conduit for looting public funds.
Speaking on the matter, Obasanjo questioned the economic justification for the project, arguing that such an enormous investment should be directed toward critical sectors that would have a more immediate impact on Nigerians.
The former president also condemned the administration’s decision to spend N21 billion on a new official residence for Vice President Kashim Shettima, describing it as a misplaced priority at a time when citizens are struggling with economic hardship.
His remarks have further sparked debates on government spending priorities, with critics arguing that funds should be channeled toward education, healthcare, and infrastructure projects with broader economic benefits.
