Nigeria’s push for economic transformation has received a significant boost as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) officially expressed strong support for the country’s Single Window Trade Project (NSW)—a flagship initiative aimed at simplifying trade processes, improving revenue collection, and enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness within Africa.

The endorsement was revealed in a statement by Mohammed Manga, spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance, following a strategic meeting in Abuja between Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and a visiting IMF team led by Marco Antonio, Technical Assistance Advisor for Revenue Administration 2.

According to the statement, the IMF team commended the progress of the NSW project and emphasized its potential to streamline import/export operations, reduce bottlenecks, and drive government revenue growth. Antonio inquired about ways the IMF could further support the project’s implementation.

Minister Edun responded that the project is well underway, with all necessary approvals secured, a dedicated implementation team in place, and a clear roadmap to execution.

The Single Window Trade Project is part of Nigeria’s broader economic reform strategy to modernize trade infrastructure, boost investor confidence, and solidify its leadership role in African intra-regional commerce. The IMF’s backing is expected to encourage global partners and enhance international confidence in Nigeria’s economic direction.
