Authorities in southern Libya have arrested three Nigerian nationals on charges of drug trafficking, according to a statement issued on Sunday by Migrant Rescue Watch (MRW), a monitoring organization tracking migrant-related incidents across North Africa.
The arrests were made by the Samnu Police Department in the town of Samnu, located in Libya’s Murzuq district, a region known for smuggling and trafficking due to its proximity to porous southern borders. The suspects were allegedly caught with an undisclosed quantity of hashish prepared for sale.
The identities of the suspects have not been released, and investigations are ongoing. The MRW noted that the region has become a hotspot for migrant-related criminal activity, particularly involving drug and human trafficking operations.
This incident adds to growing concerns about the involvement of migrants in illicit trades as they traverse lawless border zones in North Africa.
