President Bola Tinubu has called on Christian and Muslim communities in Nigeria to deepen their commitment to love, trust, and mutual understanding, stressing that these values are fundamental to building a united and peaceful nation. The president made this appeal at the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) meeting held in Owerri, Imo State, on Wednesday.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Tinubu emphasized that trust is key to resolving deep-rooted divisions and misunderstandings, and critical for advancing peace, consensus, and national progress. He lauded NIREC’s role as a moral compass and symbol of hope, uniting religious leaders to champion harmony and societal ethics.

The president also commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for hosting the event and praised the welcoming spirit of Imo State. He described the meeting’s theme, "Building Mutual Trust and National Unity," as highly relevant in today’s socio-political climate.

Governor Uzodimma, in his remarks, applauded NIREC’s dedication to interfaith cooperation, urging religious leaders to continue advocating for a Nigeria grounded in peace, love, and unity. He also acknowledged the unwavering leadership of NIREC Co-Chairmen, Sultan Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar and Archbishop Daniel Okoh, for their patriotic commitment to national stability.
