The European Union has announced a €300 million investment in new development projects across Nigeria’s North-West and North-East regions, reinforcing its commitment to stability, prosperity, and inclusive growth.

The pledge was revealed by EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, during the 2025 Europe Day celebration in Abuja.

Ambassador Mignot emphasized the EU’s focus on fostering long-term partnerships that support women, youth, and local communities, particularly through its Global Gateway strategy. The new funding package aims to boost local infrastructure, education, health, and job creation efforts in areas most affected by insecurity and economic hardship.

In addition to development assistance, Mignot highlighted the EU’s desire to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties with Nigeria, noting the EU remains Nigeria’s largest trading partner. He also reaffirmed the bloc’s dedication to supporting regional institutions like ECOWAS, underlining shared goals of a rules-based, equitable global order.

“In this fast-changing world, the EU is for Nigeria a stable and reliable partner—and so is Nigeria for us,” Mignot stated.
