FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has shut down speculation that he may contest the 2027 presidential election, stating clearly that he will not run against President Bola Tinubu.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Wike said:
“Why will I contest against someone I’m working for?” — responding to rumors that he might enter the race if the PDP zones its ticket to the South.

When asked whether Tinubu could win in 2027, Wike added: “There is nobody in the opposition to challenge him.”

Wike also addressed ongoing comparisons with Nasir El-Rufai, the former FCT Minister widely praised for his transformative tenure under President Obasanjo.
“I’m not here to compete with El-Rufai. He did his part, and I’m focused on doing mine,” Wike stated, emphasizing that his efforts are based on President Tinubu’s vision and a commitment to changing Abuja, not legacy comparisons.

The former Rivers State Governor stressed that while El-Rufai earned accolades, every minister brings a unique approach to governance:
“People will judge by what they see. I never stayed in Abuja before this appointment — my focus is on delivering results.”
