Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has defended the state’s image, dismissing claims from viral influencer Scott Iguma, who described Lagos as "smelling" and "full of big mosquitoes."
In a recent podcast clip that stirred online debate, Iguma criticized Lagos’ living conditions. Responding, Wahab firmly stated:
“Lagos is a city of opportunity, innovation, and resilience — not a smelling city.”
He condemned what he called “deliberate efforts by a handful of individuals” to tarnish Lagos' reputation, especially from those who have benefited from the city’s open arms.
“It’s regrettable when people who move here in search of better lives begin to disparage the very place offering them that chance,” Wahab said, warning against weaponizing social media to spread divisive and misleading narratives.
Lagos continues to position itself as Nigeria’s economic powerhouse, welcoming all, while emphasizing accountability and environmental improvement.
