The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has conferred its prestigious Corporate Merit Award on Yaba College of Technology, recognizing the institution’s exceptional role in advancing the accounting profession in Nigeria.
The award was presented during the 2025 ICAN Award and Dinner Night at the Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos. Receiving the award, the Rector of YABATECH, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, expressed gratitude, reaffirming the college’s commitment to producing high-quality professionals and upholding the values of the accounting profession.
ICAN President, Chief Davidson Alaribe, himself an alumnus of the college, described the award as both symbolic and inspirational:
“I am proud to present and simultaneously receive this award, as a product of YABATECH.”
The institute praised Yaba College of Technology for its historic contributions, notably as the venue for ICAN’s first professional exam, and its reputation as Nigeria’s largest producer of chartered accountants, many of whom qualify while still undergraduates.
Dignitaries present at the event included Pa George Majekodunmi Okufi, YABATECH’s first indigenous Rector and ICAN’s pioneer CEO; Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara; and the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, among others.
The night also saw Professor Ademola Tayo, President of Babcock University, receive a Distinguished Service ICAN Merit Award.
